Too much to do on final match day - early defeat means the title goes to Retro Rovers by three points.

Only one victory away from repeating our 2016 success, my thanks go to all of the players who have represented Wanderers this season.
- John Myatt, Team Manager

Wanderers played the sixth and final round of their South Yorkshire League campaign on Wednesday. Thankfully the games were moved from outdoors at Barnsley to indoors at Silkstone Common to avoid the persistent rain.

Needing to win all their games to top the League, Wanderers got off to a disappointing start losing 0-1 to the ultimate league winners Retro Rovers. As we pressed for the required victory, Retro broke and scored from a rebound with their only serious effort at our goal.

Despite our disappointment the team rallied themselves and in the next game against Sheffield United John Mc intercepted and drove the ball home for a 1-0 victory - again Mick Wilde was relatively untroubled in our goal as the defence put in a fine performance.

In the final league game against Barnsley Old Pals, Niall ODonnell opened the scoring and further goals followed from John Myatt, Mike Thompson and John Mc. to give us a convincing 4-0 victory.

John Myatt was hoping to celebrate his birthday with a second League title but after a season of 30 competitive games, Wanderers had finished a close second in the League, three points behind Retro Rovers.

The league fixtures completed, the day ended with a series of friendlies. In these Wanderers recorded a convincing 1-0 victory over Retro with a Jim Pedley goal, a further 2-0 win over Barnsley with ODonnell and Dave Holbrow on the score sheet, and a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United with the prolific John Mc scoring again.

Steve Stoker and Martin Burrell were both present as back up at the tournament and team manager John Myatt wanted to extend his thanks to both for their support.
