John Myatt, Club Secretary
With the four 'play and pay' sessions continuing to attract solid numbers of attendees every week, the Wanderers 50+, 60+ and 65+ teams have entered a quiet period as even committed Walking footballers take Summer holidays with family and friends.
However during this lull, your Club Secretary has been fully engaged finding, researching and organising competitive opportunities for the growing number of Club members who have tried and enjoyed taking part in tournaments, cups, festivals and friendlies over the past twelve months.
Anyone who has recently checked the 'Calendar' on the website (and if you haven't, why not?) will have noticed the growing list of Fixtures for all our teams. Here is the up-to-date list for the six weeks from the 1st September :
Fri 1st Sept
Greater Manchester Over 60's Walking Football League - Month 1 of 4
Sun 10th Sept
Heywood Tournament 60+ (Martin Dawson Memorial Trophy)
Sun 17th Sept
WFU 60+ - Regional Stage at Wakefield Football Centre
Sun 24th Sept
Middlesbrough tournament - 50+ - Goals Teesside
Fri 6th Oct
Greater Manchester Over 60's Walking Football League - Month 2 of 4
Sun 8th Oct
Kingsmaid WF Festival - 60+ - Etihad Campus, Manchester
Mon 9th Oct
Kingsmaid WF Festival - 65+ - Etihad Campus, Manchester
Those of you who are registered on the website as 'Club Members' and also as 'Players' should be receiving automatic invites to register your "Availability" for each Match for which you qualify. If you're not sure about this click "Membership" and then "Wakefield Walking Football" and check which 'roles' you have currently. From this page you can apply for more roles or "remove" any you don't want.
Invites are shown by the appearance of a red number in the top left hand corner of your Home Page next to your name when you log in. By clicking on "Availability/Selection" on the menu you will be asked to indicate your availability for each Match by selecting "Yes", "No" or "Maybe".
Around seven days before the date of the Match, squad selection will take place and Players selected will be advised by email and asked to confirm their attendance. It stands to reason that if you have selected '"No" or "Maybe" then you are unlikely to be considered for selection.
Sounds very simple? Well it would be if everyone took a few minutes regularly to show their 'Availability' (or not) for all appropriate Fixtures!
So why not login and check now if your Availability is up to date?
Thanks for your help in making the administration burden lighter!
Happy to try to answer any queries about this - either email me or catch me at one of sessions.
