Hello and welcome to the under 9's Team's space
Our aim is to run a really enjoyable and fun under 9's rugby team that's about having fun and being involved in Rugby. The RFU's new rules for U9 mean that there is a real focus on a flowing fun game. This season we are introducing tackling into the game.
Learning to tackle safely is really important and we spend this season focusing on developing tackling skills. Our key goal is to ensure everyone gets to enjoy the game. By managing the introduction of tackling we ensure that all players get to enjoy the great game of rugby.
Over the course of the year we will play different teams across the area. For the U9s these are more about the chance to play with teams from other clubs and is not about entering a competition. When we play another team we do our normal warm ups and exercises then play the visiting/away team. All kids will get a chance to play and we will work to ensure everyone feels they have taken part.
Girls and boys alike
Our team is for girls and boys alike at all levels of ability. At this stage of Rugby we are really looking for the kids to enjoy their time on a Sunday and want to come back for more. There's no contact at all with a focus on running and passing with the ball.
The biggest measure of success for the team is the size of the smiles on their faces. We are looking to encourage fun, exciting, fearless play - the sort of game where you as parents just want to watch. We want all of the kids - no matter what their ability to have the confidence to try something exciting and new every week.
Staying with your children
We encourage parents to stay and watch the game (with perhaps a coffee and bacon roll from the club house.)
Wrapping up warm
As most residents of Bath should know Lansdown can be occasionally quite chilly and I would encourage all parents to wrap the boys and girls up well as we can always take layers off. We would rather see a child drop a ball because they are wearing gloves than go home early because they are too cold.
