D&W Colts Merit league fixture: Colts 77 – 0 Swindon Colts
Walcot resumed their D&W Colts Merit League campaign with a 13 try win over Swindon.
Swindon started the contest in determined fashion, had spells of possession which pressurised the host’s line and were dogged throughout. However Walcot utterly dominated this contest which was played in atrocious conditions on Lansdown Playing Fields.
No. 8 Jake Flint opened the scoring for Walcot after fierce defence had forced a turnover.
Despite the mud and rain, winger Max Maichin scored an excellent try involving good handling and expansive running lines, shortly after scrum half (for the day) Will Thompson had forced his way over from short range.
Hooker Alex Phantis added two quick fire tries, the first of which involved the front rower running a smart / pacey line and stepping through the cover defence.
Outside centre Toby Brown scored a hat-trick of tries with his customary elusive running and pace.
Winger Joe Healy added a try following a storming run by prop Issac Vowles, immediately prior to Jake Flint completing his hat-trick of tries.
Skipper Sam Firth, playing at inside centre, scored another very well worked try after Max Maichin had been worked into space by his fellow backs and the winger’s smart running line created space for his skipper to dive over in the corner.
Walcot were also awarded a penalty try whilst fly half Harry Bullard added 5 conversions for the hosts.
