Newcastle Chemfica 0 - 1 Wallington

Wallington wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win away at Newcastle Chemfica on Saturday.

The Division One outfit provided a stern test for The Greens on a red hot afternoon at Cochrane Park as a successive clean sheet laid the foundations for the result.

The win means Wallington complete their pre-season programme with two wins, two defeats and a draw. After a slow start, including a miserable second half performance vs Percy Main, Davey Featherstone’s men have regained the resilience and team effort that they have been associated with over the last few years. This culminated in yesterday’s impressive display and more significantly on Wednesday evening when they defeated Premier Division rivals Stocksfield in the final of The Clayton Cup.

John Paxton, sporting his sharp new haircut, continued his hot steak with the only goal of the game, powering in a first half header from Chris Moffitt’s chipped cross.

Attention now turns to next Saturday and the Kick Off of the brand new season where The Greens will host Northbank Carlisle at Scot’s Gap.
