Wallington start with impressive Quin

Clayton Cup: WALLINGTON 5 PONTELAND UNITED 1 Goals: S. Walton, Gilmartin, Paxton, Thompson, J. Walton

Wallington began the defence of The Clayton Cup in fine fashion last night as they comprehensively beat 2011 Premier Division champions Ponteland United.
As the rain poured at Scot's Gap so did the goals as the hosts blew their opponents out of the water with some, at times, liquid football.
Swalton opened the scoring before Pont bagged a well worked equaliser. Josh then restored the lead before Pacca left off where he finished last season with a rasping drive into the far corner.
The traditional pre-season roll on and off system was once again utilised as Mr Cowan got a good look at how the squad is shaping up ahead of next months big kick off.
Further goals in the second half from Kavos bound Thompa and Jakey may have flattered The Greens a bit but nevertheless it was a very impressive first fixture in the brand new kit.
This win sends Wallington into next Wednesday's Clayton Cup semi-final where they will meet the winners of Thursday nights fixture between Prudhoe Town and Alston.
