Small squad win at rockets
9 Eagles battle against 13 Rockets
On Saturday, Wallsend eagles u13s travelled to Cramlington Rockets in what was a top of the table clash. With many of the Eagles squad away 10 players arrived to take on 2nd in the league.
The game started with 10 eagles playing against a full team of 13 rockets and it was the rockets who struck first with a quick try from their speedy winger. It would have been easy for the players to think the 3 man advantage would be too much and throw the towel in early but the character of this squad this season has been amazing and they started to put some good rugby together - putting points on the score board.
An injury to an eagles player which required stitches meant the team was down to 9 and had to dig deep to cover the 4 man advantage. The game was end to end with some good defence by both teams but as the 2nd half pushed on it was eagles who showed by they are unbeaten in the league this season and pulled away on the scoreboard. A couple late tries by cramlington brought the final score to 34-24 in favour of the travelling side.
All the players were proud of their well drilled performance and we would have definitely taking the score at 9.55am.
Our last league game of the season is tuesday and a win will see the team finish yet another season unbeaten which is a great achievement by the side. They are fast becoming a team who work hard for each other all bringing their own strengths into the squad.
