“'Very proud and grateful'”
Gavin Jones - Mini and junior Chairman.
What an absolutely superb weekend on tour at the Welsh Rugby Rocks tournament at Shotton Steel Rugby Club.
Walsall RFC's Under 7s, 8s, 10s, 11s, 12s, 14s and 15s were exemplary in their conduct both on and off the field, which was commented on several times by the organisers and referees! When it came to the core values of rugby we ticked every box across the age groups!
A fantastic endorsement, so every single one of them were a credit to their families and to the rugby club.
The conditions were absolutely shocking throughout the weekend, but special mentions have to go to the Under 7s, 8s, 11s and any others that played on Saturday morning when the down pour of rain was at its peak! Several of our teams played in the afternoon when the rain had stopped and this was bad enough, but full credit to those in the morning in what were some of the worst conditions we have seen.
The standard of rugby was awesome and it was fantastic to see a couple of teams bought some silverware back. But, most importantly everyone enjoyed the tour, the players got to bond with their team mates in an environment different to just the rugby club on a Sunday morning, parents across the age groups got to socialise with other groups and we forged new friendships/relationships with other teams, some across the sea!
I would like to personally thank every single person who came, especially those that helped in the organisation of such a large tour (250 people from Walsall RFC!).
Walsall's Mini and Junior section I am sure is all the stronger following such a tour and the future is looking extremely bright!
