Sunday 3rd March - Moseley AWAY
Close encounters across the board, but as ever, the boys did us proud.....
Today we visited Moseley, where we were treated to playing on their all weather pitch. A new experience for most of ours and more than one 'carpet burn' to show for it! ..... Serves some of them right for DIVING!!!!!! ;-)
As both teams had enough players, we split into three teams, with me taking one team, Mike W another and John P taking the third. As each team played 4 games, I wont be providing a run down of each......
So, my team comprised of - Rhys, Jonathan, Charlie P and James. (Both Charlie and James making their match debuts!)
We played 4 games with the following results -
Game 1 = Drew 7-7 (An excellent come back coming from 5-2 down!)
Tries for Rhys (5), Charlie (1), James (1)
Game 2 = Won 9-4
Tries for Rhys (2), Charlie (5), James (1), Jonathan (1)
Game 3 = Drew 6-6
Tries for Rhys (5), Charlie (1)
Game 4 = Won 6-2
Tries for Rhys (2), Charlie (2), Jonathan (2)
Well done to Rhys scoring a magic 14 tries! Lots of strong running and diving tags...Jonathan did a great job of foraging on the ground for loose balls and supporting players. Excellent debuts for both James and Charlie. Charlie scoring 9 tries in his first run out! James also had an excellent debut. After running backwards and into touch on the first couple of occasions, it was obvious things clicked and he scored one of the tries of the day, head down, powering through the defence. For such a valiant effort in attack and defence, James won my Star of the Week.
Mike W's team comprised of Ben W, Maxwell, Chase, Freddie C and Jack (who played between the two teams).
Again 4 games with the following results -
Game 1 = Won 9-8
Tries for Ben W (3), Maxwell (4), Chase (2)
Game 2 = Lost 5-7
Tries for Ben W (1), Maxwell (3), Chase (1)
Game 3 = Won 7-1
Tries for Ben W (3), (Maxwell (2), Freddie C (1), Jack (1)
Game 4 = Lost 4-5
Tries for Chase (1), Ben W (1), Maxwell (2)
Mike and all the parents were really impressed with the boys and how they performed as a team. It made Mikes decision extremely difficult to pick any individual out, but Chase impressed with his speed, Maxwell dazzled and defied gravity with his turning and jinking, Ben again showed great skill in defence and scoring a number of tries....but it was Freddie C who impressed Mike with a great solo try and an influential spell as Captain. So, Freddie got Mikes Star Of The Week.
John P's team comprised of Freddie P, Hendrik, Daniel, Noah and Jack (who played between two teams).
4 games with the following results -
Game 1 = Drew 6-6
Tries for Hendrik (3), Freddie P (3)
Game 2 = Won 6-5
Tries for Freddie P (3), Hendrik (2), Daniel (1)
Game 3 = Won 6-4
Tries for Freddie P (3), Hendrik (2), Noah (1)
Game 4 = Won 8-4
Tries for Freddie P (3), Hendrik (4), Noah (1).
John was really impressed with all the boys he had. Hendrik despite scoring 11 tries could've scored more, if he just ran forwards, but he was excellent at picking up loose balls off the ground. All of the others in the team had their own moments, with some good runs and tags, but the best thing was about the team was the constant support, there wasn't a time that one of them got tagged and didn't have someone with them to pass to. Freddie P again played extremely well scoring 12 tries. Apparently he started by missing a few tags, but had it sorted by game 2 and tagged really well throughout the rest of the games. As a result, Freddie won Johns Star Of The Week.
As ever, I couldn't be more proud of the boys today in how they performed across the board. Especially as we've missed so much rugby recently due to the weather.
Next week we have Old Hales at home, so I look forward to seeing you all then!
(Many thanks to Mike and John for scoring the other games for me.)
