Walsall take 2nd place in Festival
Walsall lose final game in thrilling match.
Kings Norton hosted a fantastic festival of mini rugby and Walsall played a major part in that.
Walsall were in a league of 5 comprising Claverdon, Bournville, Kings Norton, Redditch and Camp Hill.
Limited to 14 players only which sadly meant some of the team did not travel those that played were a credit.
THE RESULTS WERE AS FOLLOWS:
Match 1: Camp Hill 0 - Walsall 9
Match 2: Walsall 6 - Redditch 2
Match 3: Kings Norton 1 - Walsall 9
Match 4: Walsall 9 - Bournville 0
So prior to the last game against Claverdon Walsall were unbeaten and had amassed 33 tries!!
Claverdon were also unbeaten and there was a great amount of interest to see who would win the final match of the day.
Claverdon scored first and Walsall levelled shortly after. Both teams tackled and rucked the ball ferociously but Claverdon were slightly better organised and passed the ball very well.
Using the space well Claverdon (and one player in particular) ran well to score early in the second half to take the lead.
Walsall kept pressurizing and it was only superb covering defence by Claverdon that prevented Walsall from leveling the score yet again.
In the closing seconds Claverdon broke free to end the game 3 - 1 which was a deserved victory.
A thoroughly enjoyable day and Walsall did themselves proud. Although the focus and concentration was missing during the practice sessions everyone equipped themselves well for the games.
Lets all work hard on Sunday where the focus will be on passing the ball away from contact and onto players who take the ball at pace!
That's what Claverdon did and that is why they won.
