Improving Walsall U11's Take the Honours

Teddy Broadhurst leads by example.

Another superb morning was just the tonic for both Sutton and Walsall and the boys and girls produced some excellent rugby for the crowd to enjoy.

Match 1 - Sutton 3, Walsall 8 (Half Time 2 - 3)

The first half was a cagey affair with both teams getting to grips with each other. Sutton had a couple of very strong runners but the tone was set by Lewis W who opened the scoring in his typical robust style forcing his way over and sending a strong message to his teammates and the opposition. Although Sutton pulled two tries back Walsall finished the half on top following excellent defensive work and counter rucking from Will which allowed Brandon to storm through for a score and Teddy produced a cracker. Brandon had a cracking game throughout and Teddy was on fire.

The second half was more one sided as Walsall exerted pressure and defended very well. Hansen was excellent in defence and to cap that scored two tries in typical Hansen style. Not to be outdone Joe C continued from last week and was rewarded with a fine score for his efforts. The team were grateful to the consistent and aggressive defensive effort throughout which Amrit was very much a part of. Lewis W continued to impress but it was Teddy that shone scoring two further tries in a most satisfying victory. It should be noted though that carelessness cost Walsall a further 4 tries and we will be working on that!

Match 2 - Sutton 5, Walsall 6 (Half Time 3 - 2)

Sutton began the second game very well with some strong running and quality finishing. Jack and Finn followed up last week with some excellent work but it was Sam who stood out with great effort and a fantastic try. Joe D kicked into gear and produced a good finish for Walsall's second.

The second half saw Walsall pick it up and Lewis W led the way with two excellent scores (it could have been 3!). Once again Sam showed good understanding and pace for his second try. Teddy finished off a fine morning with another score and whilst it was close Walsall stuck to their metal and were deserved winners. Ky picked it up in this game and his follow up from a kick off was superb. The resulting pressure forced errors from Sutton which allowed Walsall to regain possession. He was backed up well by Louis P, Dominic and Jack T.

Summary

Not a bad day at the office but too many mistakes that we must eradicate. Passing and distribution is improving and the rucking has come on very well. Looking good but work still to do.

Mon of the Match

Teddy Broadhurst - There is no substitute for pace...and he looked to pass the ball!!! Well done.
