Walsall Under 16's V Loughborough
Exciting Game To watch
Walsall Under 16’s V Loughborough
Sunday 20th March 2016
Walsall welcomed Loughborough to the Delves Road ground for the first time in game picked up in the absence of Tamworth. Walsall started strongly both in attack and defence and were soon pressurising the Loughborough line. After a couple of attacks were snuffed out, the ball went wide out on the left and Sam Garbett came in from fullback to take it on. He produced a deft chip and catch to score in the corner for an unconverted try. Walsall continued to impress with their handling and assurity going through the phases until the ball came wide again for Sam Garbett to ghost through a gap to score his and the teams second try. Walsall were playing very well at this point but Loughborough forced their way back into the game through some forward driving and scored a well-deserved try which they converted to leave the score at half time well balanced at 10-7.
The second half, with the back line reorganised due to a nasty injury to Rory Rollason, Walsall failed to show the fluidity of the first half and although the defence and physicality at the breakdown ensured that Loughborough never had a clear chance at scoring, Walsall were unable to put much pressure on the Loughborough defence. That is until right near the end of the game when from a quickly taken penalty, the ball was put though some hands for Rhys Gaddu to crash over for a try that he converted himself. Final Score 17 – 7. Our thanks go to Loughborough and hope to meet them again next year.
