Walsall 3s V Whitchurch 3s
Great finale to the season with Walsall winning 41-26
Many thanks to Whitchurch 3s for making the trip over to Delves Road for the last game of the season. This turned out to be one of the best games of the season with Whitchurch providing a stern test for us.
I have no doubt from a spectators view it was a fantastic game to watch with both teams playing good physical rugby and leaving it all out on the pitch in our last blow out.
Walsall's pack dominated the scrum which gave a great platform for Stanners to break away at 8. The breakdowns were fiercely contested by both teams, but certainly in the first half Whitchurch appeared to have the edge, so Walsall had to change tactic somewhat from throwing in bodies to standing out and providing a defensive line to stop the strong running from the Whitchurch backs and their elusive fly half.
The game was closely fought throughout, but it was the last 10 minutes where Walsall were able to prevent Whitchurch from closing gap and managed to score a couple of great tries to provide a winning cushion.
Try scorers for the day were Dominic Wiercyvic (x2), Tom, Neil Green, Stanners, Andy Richardson, Jeffrey. 3 conversions from skipper James Quigley.
The scoreline of 41-26 really did flatter Walsall as there was very little between the teams, but ultimately it was Walsalls commitment and determination towards the end that really made the difference.
A fantastic performance to end the season on. Well done to all involved and those that have played third team rugby at Walsall this season, which has been extremely testing at times with player availability, injuries and cancelled fixtures.
Hopefully we can take this into next season and have another successful season.
Massive thank you from myself and skipper James Quigley.
