Friendly Defeat at old friends Great Wakering
Trialists Feature Heavy
Managers Holland and Spencer took the chance on Wednesday night to visit Great Wakering (Southend) and allow some invited trialists to show their credentials and also give 1st team squad members, who have been on the bench of late, a full 90 minutes run out to increase their match fitness.
On a cold evening with noses running the game ebbed and flowed and quite honestly there were mistakes galore from both sides in an entertaining game. Rovers quickly went into a 2-0 lead but the Abbotts hit back with Ellis Brown netting twice, Brown causing the Rovers defence all sorts of problems towards the end of the half. A Trialist slammed home to put us 3-2 up at the break. The night began to freeze and the hardy 45 spectators saw 2 further goals from the home side, who had made wholesale changes in the second half . Aristidou, who had come on at half time for the Abbotts dazzled everyone with some sublime skills on a number of occasions and looked like he was enjoying the central midfield role the JM's had given him. A number of players were also played in different positions to show their versatility. It was a good work out all in all and with no traffic either way it wasn't such a bad night out after all.
