Didcot take the points

The derby between Wantage and Didcot was a typical derby game.

Though Didcot is sitting close to the top of the table, and Wantage are seventeen positions below, the teams were closely matched on the day. Derby matches always tend to be closely fought games and this match was no exception.

The first half was a scrappy affair, with the best chances falling to Didcot, who did not make the most of the opportunities. Wantage lost Johns early in the game due to injury, who until then had been having a great game. Tucker again kept Wantage with a clean sheet in the first half by pulling off a superb save from Didcot’s Dutton-Black, and as the half progressed, Didcot became more and more frustrated which resulted in a couple of bookings. The 0-0 score line at half-time was a fair reflection on the game so far.

The second half was a close repeat of the first half, with the only difference (and only goal of the match) made when Wantage failed to clear a ball from a Didcot corner and a ball driven across the goal was tapped in by Didcot.

Final score was 1-0 to Didcot, but it was a closely fought game in all areas of the pitch, and though it was not a great game to watch, Wantage did themselves proud. The Freds yet again showed they are improving week by week.
