Wantage Town are delighted to announce that they will be re-establishing a Development team at the club for the 2018-2019 season after not having had one for the last year. And the club are able to reveal that three experienced former players will be at the helm.
Tom Austin and Matthew Biddle will take on joint management of the side, while Roy Clark will assist with coaching and mentoring.
As well as playing for Wantage 31 year old Austin has Southern League experience with Abingdon United, and has represented Kidlington, Witney and Milton at Hellenic level. He has the FA Level 2 coaching badge, and is co-owner of Serious4Sport.
Biddle, 29, also has a Southern League pedigree with Abingdon, and Market Drayton, but his playing career was unfortunately cut short due to a triple ACL injury. He has coaching experience in America, and assisted at Milton United two years ago.
Clark is a former Oxford United professional and as well as Wantage has represented Hungerford, Aylesbury and Witney and is keen to use his vast experience to help guide the young management team in the right direction.
The trio are excited to have been given the opportunity to take up the reigns at Wantage and are looking forward to pushing as many young players up to the first team as possible.
Club secretary Mike Skinner said “After the disappointment of losing our development side just a couple of weeks before the start of last season we have chosen the new management team carefully. All three are local, and have a good knowledge of the local football scene, which we believe is key in giving local players a pathway to first team football.”
