Tomorrow night (Wednesday 12th July) the first team travel to near-neighbours Milton United for their second pre-season friendly, 7:45 pm kick-off.
Having defeated Calne on Saturday 3-0 with an experimental side manager Ben Sadler is expecting to be able to field a side much closer to what the league side will look like. Unfortunately that will be minus Charlie Wise who seems likely to miss the start of the season through injury.
The Freds travelled to Milton exactly a year ago, 12th July 2016, also for a pre-season game, winning 3-0 with goals from Niall Hodgkins, Todd Hathaway and an own-goal. Aside from friendlies, the last competitive meeting was in the Hellenic Premier Division back in 2008-09 when Milton won 2-1 at their place and 1-0 at Alfredian Park. Despite that it was Wantage who finished the higher team in 11th place, whilst Milton finished second from bottom and were relegated.
Last season Milton finished 12th in Division 1 West; this will be their first game this season after their trip to Newbury Town was cancelled on Saturday.
Then on Saturday Wantage host Heading Amateurs in a change of fixture, with a 1pm kick-off.
