Reid Inspires 4-2 Win Over Fairford

Wantage Town Reserves had their first competitive game of the season with a match at Clanfield against a mixed Fairford Town XI.

And it was a successful night after a 4-2 win put the Fred's Res through to meet either North Leigh or Faringdon Town in Sunday's Semi Final.

Wantage dominated possession from the start and it was no surprise when Ant Martin put Wantage ahead on the half hour. What was a shock was the leveller considering how the Freds had dominated the play. Basilone levelled it up with a close range header just 5 minutes later. But Fairford themselves were guilty of not concentrating when Sam Barder almost instantly fired Wantage back in front a minute later to make it 2-1 at half time.

Fairford came out far more fired up in the second half and Chilcott headed home an equaliser from a free kick to make it 2-2 on the hour. The turning point came when Ryan Welland was dismissed for foul and abusive language at the assistant referee on 65.

This gave the Freds more room and space which substitute Karl Roberst made the most of with a classy assist for Ant Martin to fire home a 2nd. The win was wrapped up by George Reid who had been a star all evening with his play - scoring with just 3 minutes left.

A good win and an enjoyable game to watch.
