Pre-Season Completed With A Win - And Two New Signings
Wantage completed their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 win at reigning Wiltshire League Champions Kintbury Rangers.
Steve Robertson netted with a cheeky lob on 17 minutes, and the hard working hosts kept it to that one goal until the 75th minute when Kaylem Patterson doubled the advantage.
Robertson completed his hat-trick with goals on 82 and 87 minutes, while Patterson added a second on his debut for the club on 84 minutes.
After the game Patterson and goalkeeper Garry Aulsberry both completed registration forms for the club to bring the squad up to 19 players, with all but Jack Buchanan, Chris Jackson and Dan Sadler taking part in this final run-out.
Kaylem Patterson is a former England Schools U18s player who came up through the ranks at Oxford City, breaking into their Conference South team. He had a brief spell at Ardley before taking nearly a year out from the game prior to this season. The 6' 5" centre-forward has a quick turn of pace and will hopefully slot in for the departing TJ Bohane.
Garry Aulsberry has been training with the team for a while and featured in a few of the pre-season games, and will provide completion for the No. 1 shirt for Curtis Meare. The experienced goalkeeper made 31 appearances with Highworth Town last season and was with Henley and Binfield in 2016-17. Prior to that he can count Bracknell Town, Holyport, Godalming and Wokingham & Emmbrook amongst his former clubs.
Wantage now look forward to the opening league fixture this Saturday, a 3pm kicjk-off at Fairford Town.
