First Team Loose At Bracknell
Run Ends At Bracknell
Wantage travelled to Bracknell knowing it would be a stern test with the hosts looking to avenge The Freds 3-2 win just 10 days ago. And the cause wasn’t helped when Jack Dunmall pulled out through injury.
Playing on the hosts’ artificial pitch increased the difficulty, but Wantage held strong for the first half and weren’t really troubled.
The game swung on the sending off of Ryan Markham ten minutes into the second half, the referee deeming his tackle to be two footed and over the top of the ball.
Bracknell upped the pressure and it finally paid off for them in the 72nd minute, TJ Bohane, only playing as his parent clubs’ game was called off, headed goal-wards and despite the best efforts of Flanagan and Meare the assistant was confident the ball had crossed the line. Shame he wasn’t as eagled-eyed to spot the push on Meare in the build up to the goal.
Bracknell’s second was a quality finish from Joe Grant who cured his shot out of Meare’s reach three minutes later, and Adam Cornell netted the third in the 81st minute to round off a night to forget for Wantage who, prior to this game, had a 100% record over Bracknell.
It was a competitive game, but didn’t really warrant the seven cards shown, 6 of them in the last 20 minutes. And it will prove costly for Wantage with Markham suspended for 3 games and Cox 1 after picking up his 5th yellow of the season.
