Manager Sadler gives his thoughts on the Kidlington game and the season so far

Manager Ben Sadler gives his thoughts ahead of Saturday’s game:

“We visit Kidlington in the FA Cup this Saturday, which we all know will be a very tough game.

We welcome back Paul Alder, Curtis Meare, Ryan Markham and Mark Threlfall, all who missed our narrow midweek defeat to Brimscombe.

Reflecting on our last two games, we were unfortunate to lose to a late goal against Lydney, that game highlighted the need to have a settled squad. We followed that up with a narrow 1-0 defeat at Brimscombe. We were disappointed to lose to a set piece goal. We weathered an early spell of pressure and were getting on top before we conceded the goal.

With only 2 players kept from last season it was always likely to take some time for the squad to settle and we are still trying to find the right balance to play the style of football that we want. I have full belief in the squad of players and we will improve game by game.
Thanks for your continued support, stick with us as this squad are capable of great things this season.”

Meanwhile Wantage have history on their side as they head to Yarnton Road for Saturday’s Preliminary Round tie in the Emirates FA Cup.

Last season saw The Freds record one of their rare wins of the campaign with a 3-2 success there in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round, and in 2014/15 beat them 3-2 in the FA Cup Preliminary Round at Alfredian Park.

In fact Wantage have only lost once to Kidlington in the 20 encounters this century, a 2-0 home defeat in January 2009. The other games have seen 15 wins for Wantage and 4 draws.

However with Kidlington plying their trade in the Southern League, Division 1 West, from whence Wantage were relegated at the end of last season, the home side will be the favourites this time around.

Last season Kidlington finished in 12th place in the Central Division. Having strengthened over the summer they had a good pre-season, including a win over Wantage, and opened their league campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Yate Town last Saturday, twice coming from behind.

And on Tuesday they followed it up with a 1-0 win at Winchester City, Lewis Coyle’s 25th minute goal earning them maximum points.

Saturday’s game is a 3pm kick-off with entry at £8 for adults, £4 concessions, and £1 for under 16s. Please get along and support the lads!

Should a replay be required it will be on Tuesday 22nd August, 7:45pm kick-off at Alfredian Park.
