Ladie Hit Double Figures
Titchener Scores 6!
Wantage took on bottom club Thatcham Ladies mindful that goal difference could play a part come the end of the season, and that previous games against the bottom two had yet to see them hit double figures.
But Wantage were on it from the start and went 1-0 up inside two minutes, Harriette Titchener winning the ball and setting Gayatri Patel away who made no mistake. From then on it was just a matter of how many with almost the whole game played out in the Thatcham half.
By half-time it was 6-0, and to be honest could quite easily have been double that with the number of chances that went wide or off the frame of the goal. Thatcham did have the odd foray forward, but probably only one real attempt on goal that came to nowt.
The intensity increased in the second half as the visitors started to tire and Wantage ran in a further 10 goals. Titchener lead the way with an impressive double hat-trick, Ky West notched 4, Jade Wilkinson and Gayatri Patel got a brace each, and solo efforts from Ashleigh Wilcox and Kat Boylan completed the rout.
Wantage keeper Bells Rowan only touched the ball once in the second half, and that was from a drop ball where the referee asked Thatcham to play it back to her following a stoppage for an injury to one of their players.
Fair play to the Thatcham XI who kept going to the end.
Not a game to take much from other than the three points and a boost to the goal difference, but you can only play what’s in front of you. The remaining three games of the season will be a lot tougher that’s for sure.
