Ware 0 Thurrock 1
Ware left wondering what might have been in their last home game of the season.
Ware were unfortunate to take nothing from their final home fixture of a gruelling season (writes Sean Mynott), but after securing their Ryman League status for another year in the previous midweek it was only their play off chasing visitors who had a prize more than pride on the fixture.
Allan Buck, deputising for the unavailable Rhys Madden, was called into early action getting down to his right to cling on to Charlie Stimson’s shot on the turn. At the other end a fizzing Murat Karagul drive from twenty yards out ricocheted off the post.
Jamie Smith brought a decent save from ex-league keeper Andy Walker as his header was palmed away by the former Colchester man following Marvin Hamilton’s wide cross.
He was called into action again to deny Hamilton as his dipping and swerving shot from distance was beaten out by the keeper.
The decisive moment of the game arrived when Jordan Clark beat Buck to the ball before being brought down by the keeper, the same player stepped up to slide home the spot kick and open the scoring.
Following some good Ware build up play Bafode Carvahlo spread the ball to Samir Hadi, whose run into the box ended with him shooting into the side netting from a tight angle.
Ware caused their own problems at the end of the half with them losing the ball on the edge of their own box allowing Stimson a chance to try and lob Buck but his effort sailed narrowly over the bar.
The Ware keeper was alert on the stroke of half time when he got down well to palm away Lewis Clark’s effort.
Aryan Tajbakhsh brought another save from Walker with a shot midway through the second period the keeper parrying his effort away from danger.
Kieran Bishop was given the best opportunity to earn his side a point fifteen minutes from time when he found himself through one on one but he was denied when Walker shot out his left hand and diverted the ball wide of the far post.
