Given the age of Royston Town (their founding pre-dates ours) it is on the face of it surprising that we did not meet until 1950. However, it was only after the end of the second world war that they started to compete as a senior side. That original 1950 game was in the Senior Cup but was abandoned after 57 minutes due to fog with us leading 5-2. Fog was a constant problem in those years.

League meetings didn't start until 1985 and finished in 1990 during which time we somehow crammed in 14 games. One of our leading scorers at that time was Paddy Butcher who between 1979 and 1996 notched 87 goals for us. Ironically none of those were against Royston, a club he left us to manage.

Royston currently sit fourth in the table and had a very good 2-0 win over St Ives last weekend. It will not be easy to score what would be our seventh consecutive victory over them.
