The U9s had their opening league fixture this morning, at a sunny Recreation Ground, up against Sonning & Charvil. Batting first, Wargrave got off to a flying start, with Joseph getting three boundaries in one over. Achint also found boundaries easy to come by, top scoring with 16 in his 3 overs. The scoring was slowed however by some accurate bowling from the opposition and a few wickets falling near the end. A respectable total of 258 for 7 was posted by Wargrave.

The bowling then started, and considering that it was a number of the boys first ever game of cricket, they did really well. Sam Thomas managed to get a wicket with his first delivery, and Jake got a wicket thanks to a great reaction catch by Kieran. Good wicket keeping by Thomas and Angus, and some sharp fielding by Finley and Zack helped to limit the Sonning score and Freddie then managed a wicket maiden to put Wargrave in the hunt as we approached the last couple of overs.

Unfortunately it wasn't to be, and Sonning went on to take the victory in a competitive game played in great spirit. All the boys can be very proud of their performance.
