Hollyoaks Run Out Winners In Close Contest

Warrington Town Select XI 0-2 Hollyoaks

The cast of Channel 4 TV show Hollyoaks, visted Cantilever Park for a chairty football match, in aid of raising funds for the Broomfields Youth Project.

On a sunny afternoon in Warrington, around 600 fans attended the fixture arranged by Big Red Events, in a day that will prove memorable for the players and staff that took part.

At 12:30, 3 local children's football teams took part in a mini football tournmament on the pitch, arranged by Simon Dow from Active Soccer.

The teams came out at 3pm, as both sides lined up for team photos and introductory handshakes with the players and staff of the Warrington Town select team, managed by first team coach James Standing.

The players that represented Warrington Town on the day were Paul Walker, Tony Kember, Connor Singleton, Tom Wrench, Norman Thompson, Jack Cookson, Steve Saunders, Michael Dorton, Callum Shaw, J Jones, Jamie Knowles, Mike Filson, Adam Heakin, Wayne Cadman, John Paul Smith and Adam Barton. Tom Rutter and David Ness from the first team squad also got a run out, along with physio Carl Rutter and goalkeepeing coach Lee Luscombe.

During the first half Warrington had the better chances with the strikers working hard upfront. Just before half time, Hollyoaks took the lead which was a bitter blow to take.

A second Hollyoaks goal on the hour killed off the game but Warrington still worked hard to try and score a consolation.

After the match, fans and players swamped the VIP area wear photos were taken of the TV stars.
