Wires Exit FA Trophy At The First Hurdle

Warrington Town lost out to Leek Town in the FA Trophy With Carlsberg Preliminary Round.

Infront of 172 spectators at the Abacus Solicitors Community Stadium, Towm started with new signing Zac Aley making hios starting debut.

Both sides played all out attacking football on a good pitch which allowed the players to express themselves. The hosts went close early on through Phil Davies. Liam Shipton supplied a number of good balls into the box while Michael Reid did the same.

In the second period, the match game to life in the 57th minute when Kevin Townson was fouled by Ricky Bridge and Warrington were awarded a penalty. Townson scored the resulting kick giving the home side a 1-0 lead.

Minutes later, the scores were level after a goalmouth scramble. Leek's Matt Hadrell's shot was well saved by Adam Judge before Karl Charlton scored the follow up.

With just 4 minutes left on the clock, Charlton scored the winner to inflict Warrington Town's first defeat of the season.
