Radcliffe Borough 2-2 Warrington Town
All Square At Radcliffe As Unbeaten Run Continues
Warrington Town extended their unbeaten run to five games, and drew their third successive away game, after a hard fought 2-2 draw at Radcliffe Borough on Saturday.
Manager Shaun Reid making two changes to the starting line up from the 2-0 home victory over Prescot Cables in midweek, John Miles and Kevin Townson replacing Ash Ruane and Steve Porter in the starting line up.
Warrington made the worse possible start, falling behind in only the third minute, striker Ben Wharton being given time and space by the Town defence to pick his spot and blast home beyond Town keeper Andy Robertson from outside of the penalty area.
The home side almost increased their lead soon after, midfielder Odilon Koubemba heading over from close range. Allan Collins was first to go close for the yellows, curling his shot wide of the target, as Town began to get into the game.
On the quarter hour, the visitors had a great chance to equalise, Kevin Townson being played through, only to see his shot well saved by former New Mills keeper, James Coates.
The home side continued to pose a threat to the Town rearguard, Wharton seeing his looping effort well saved by Robertson, before visiting captain Peter Dogan saw his shot tipped over by Coates.
The last two minutes of the half saw the game spark into life, first Koubemba saw his shot well saved by Robertson when through on goal, before Town were denied what looked like a stonewall penalty when Townson was pulled over in the penalty area by Borough central defender Martin Parker.
Less than 60 seconds later, Warrington found the equaliser their possession deserved, Phil Doran seeing his powerful free kick deflected and, despite Coates getting a hand to the ball, he could not keep it out of the net.
Early in the 2nd half, Townson reached a throughball, only for Coates to once again save at close range, before Robertson was called into action to deny Koubemba soon afterwards.
Ten minutes into the half and the visitors took the lead, Phil Mooney cutting inside and shooting, a shot which Coates could only parry into the path of Allan Collins, and the diminutive striker made no mistake, sliding home from close range.
Borough found an equaliser almost immediately, winger Tom Brooks getting on the end of some neat play, only to see his shot go across the face of the Town goal. Four minutes after falling behind, Borough were level, defender Laquan Esdaille being allowed a free header to power home beyond Robertson.
Warrington almost found a winning goal midway through the half, Miles jinking run and cross being headed into the ground and up onto the cross bar, only to see the assistant referee had raised his flag for offside.
Radcliffe went close twice as time was running down, first substitute Jamie Baguley shot narrowly wide from distance, before Koubemba saw his shot deflected wide for a corner.
The last chance of the game fell to Town substitute Lee McEvilly seeing his header, from Dogan's cross go too close to Coates, allowing the Borough no 1 to make the save.
