A beautiful sunny crisp morning greeted The Colts as they arrived for their last game of the season taking on a strong Teddington side...

Teddington are currently fighting for the runners up spot two leagues above Wasps in Colts league 2 [so we knew we were in for a tough game].

The Colts ranks were swelled by 7 of this year’s current U17s eager to get their first taste of Colts rugby in what promised to be a baptism of fire.

After 15 minutes, 3 unanswered tries down, things looked bleak for the home side, but as they have done all season faced with a tough challenge, they rose to the occasion and fought back to within 8 points at one point in the first half. Gaining in confidence all the time the half became more and more competitive with both teams keen to stretch their legs in perfect running rugby conditions.

The winners so far were the spectators who were being treated to a cracking game of rugby. The only thing splitting the teams at the half was ball retention with the visitors being a little more patient and less keen to offload out of the tackle which is where wasps were turning over a lot of their most promising attacks.

Playing into the wind in the second half Wasps heads never dropped as their more physical and well organised opponents sought to close the game out. The second half ended with three tries a piece and although narrowly defeated Wasps had played their part in one of the best games of their season.

Make no mistake, if we had not been at our most combative this could have been a cricket score so huge congratulations to all involved for their commitment to the team. Had we been a little more careful with our passing and a little more patient with our ball retention we could have run this team very very close. This is a mark of how far we have come this year so well done to all for the hard work, it has paid off.

Lastly thank you to all the U17s who came a played with so much commitment and skill. None of you were overawed, you were a credit to the team and to the club, and it was a pleasure to welcome you into the Wasps Colts fold.

The following kind words were received from Tony Edwards, Teddington's Coach, afterwards:-

Many thanks to your players and coaches for a very competitive game today.

Your players were a real credit to Wasps, and kept trying to play attractive rugby all the way through.

It was just the kind of testing game that our players needed after a long lay-off, and with our final League game at Hitchin next Sunday.

So thanks once again for agreeing to host, and proving all the hospitality at your clubhouse.

All the best as you go into your summer break, we will possibly see you again next year in Colts.

Rgds, Tony Edwards.
