Waheed Aslam has been nominated for his work as a rugby volunteer and his dedication to the game.

The awards are part of the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme which
provides grassroots rugby clubs and the rugby community with opportunities to
recognise and reward the volunteers who make up such an integral part of the game.

Waheed has been with the club for more than 10 years taking on various roles as
coach, manager, referee, first aider across a range of age groups well as
undertaking the roles of safeguarding, communications, sponsorship officer as well
as the slightly less glamorous jobs of car park attendant, litter collection, flag
post collector, post-match meal distributor etc. He has also Chaired both the minis
and youth sections of the club, both helping increase participation numbers and
producing many players who have gained various representative honours. He has worked
tirelessly in helping the connections between the professional club (in Coventry)
and the FC (in West London) driving a number of joint initiatives to ensure the
continuity of the Wasps brand. Over the last 3 years he has also taken on the role
of Chairman of mini Rugby at Middlesex RFU a role that provides support and advice
(as well as organising events), for over 35 clubs and thousands of players across
the region. He has been active in helping increase playing numbers at Wasps FC and
across the Middlesex region in particular engaging children from state schools,
Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and those from underprivileged backgrounds
to get involved in the game.

Waheed Aslam is one of hundreds of specially selected volunteers who will be invited
to attend a drinks reception event held at Mitsubishi Motors dealerships or rugby
clubs in various locations throughout England. At each of these events, one
volunteer will be announced as a Volunteer of the Year finalist – earning them a
place at the inaugural Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards night at
Twickenham Stadium on Friday 15 September 2017. Three overall winners will be
announced on the evening and each one will receive a Mitsubishi car for a year as a
thank you for their continued support of the game.

As well as the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards, the programme offers
a number of opportunities to say thank you to the thousands of volunteers who give
back to grassroots rugby, week in, week out. Find out more about how you can show
