Yesterday Wasps took on Waterloo Ladies in a thrilling game of rugby at Twyford Avenue, as the home side looked to progress to the final of the RFU Cup for the 2nd year running.

The game started slow, with Waterloo holding off the girls in black and gold for the first 10.

However, the points slowly began to rack up over the first half, with tries coming from Becca Rowe, Marissa Lowe and Helen ‘Biscuit’ Coyte, with Tess Gard’ner converting.

Waterloo stayed in the games, keeping the points gap low with tries of their own, however, in the second half Wasps pulled away with a try from Sarah Mitchelson and 2 tries from Liz Crake.

Waterloo took advantage of a lapse in Wasps’ defence, and scored in the finals moments of the game. However, the slick backs moves and powerful driven mauls gave Wasps the edge and the home crowd cheered them onto victory in the semi-final.

Full time, Wasps 41 – 24 Waterloo.

Wasps Ladies will progress to the Cup Final on April 11 at Lichfield RFC for the second year in a row. Last year Wasps narrowly missed out on the cup title to Richmond Ladies, and next month’s match sees them take on fellow London side, Saracens, whom they beat in February in the pool stages of the Cup competition.

Match report by Marissa Lowe.

In the other semi final Saracens beat Richmond by the odd point in 27. Can the Ladies go one better than last season? Book your place on the coach now!
