Champagne Rugby flowed during a French team's visit to Twyford Avenue.

A Wasps wanderers side with three generations of Colts and 5 generations of players! took to Twyford Field on a beautiful warm sunny Sunday to face their French visitors RC Rillieux from Lyon.

As always with a scratch side up against a fully formed squad Wasps took a while to sorts themselves out but dogged defence kept the visitors at bay.

Gradually Wasps came into the match and in a ding dong battle played a breakneck pace and in a fantastic spirit there was rarely more than a score in it as Wasps ran out eventual winners 26-18.

A great game to watch and talking to the players afterwards doing some express rehydration via the Becks beer pump, a great game to take part in.

Thank you to Martin Jones for putting the side together and organising the game side of things so well, and to Martin and Dom for getting the fixture organised in the first place.

Thanks to Mick, Jo and Gloria and the rest of the clubhouse team for working so hard to make sure our guests were well taken care of. They were all extremely complimentary about the Wasps hospitality and have invited us back to Lyon to defend the Rillieux Trophy next year.

Thank you to all of the players for remaining committed to the club and playing such great rugby with so much pride. You are a big part of the future of Wasps FC and it is great to see you all turning out for the club. Please keep in touch with us, there will be training over the summer holidays and another Wanderers match before the next university year starts in September.

Just to add our congratulations on top of everyone else’s’ to the coaches and players of Wasps 1st XV for winning their league so convincingly. You have all worked extremely hard to have such a wonderful season and it has been great to see so many of last year’s Colts, and Flynn from this year’s Colts, involved in this great season and growing with the team.

A Bientot Mes Braves

Gordon and Martin
