Wasps development side run riot in rain against Worcester Valkyries

Wasps refused to let torrential rain dampen their spirit as they ran 13 tries in against Worcester Valkyries in the development league

Wasps refused to let torrential rain dampen their spirit as they ran 13 tries in against Worcester Valkyries in the development league. A hat-trick from Makeda Lewis as well as doubles from Katie Mason, Kendall Templeman, Georgia Wood & Megan Horwood sealed the remarkable 79-0 win at Sixways.

Wasps began the game in electric form with Becca Wye scoring in the corner following a break from Katie Mason. Makeda Lewis broke down the far touchline, bouncing off tacklers, to pick up her first of the day shortly afterwards.

Wasps third was a spectacular solo effort from Katie Mason (Sponsored by SNAP Sponsorship and Lions Sports Academy), who cut fantastic running line before racing in from 70m out. Johanna Dombrowski’s neat offload to Kendall Templeman gave the visitors the bonus point within half an hour.

Johanna Dombrowski & Kendall Templeman’s excellent handling in terrible conditions created space for Makeda Lewis to score her second. Becca Wye had an excellent break from inside her own 22m to create good field position before Megan Horwood (Sponsored by Newbury Self Store) broke through the defence to add to the scoreline.

Wasps managed a seventh before the break as Katie Mason (Sponsored by SNAP Sponsorship and Lions Sports Academy) collected a bouncing ball and won the race to the line. Wasps in a commanding 41-0 lead at the break.

The second half was a continuation of the first with Wasps scoring inside the first five minutes. This time Georgia Wood (Sponsored by ABC Surveys Ltd) broke through the Worcester defence, only an hour after making her debut for the first team.

Wasps continued to dominate as Megan Horwood (Sponsored by Newbury Self Store) and Georgia Wood (Sponsored by ABC Surveys Ltd) both added second tries to their individual tallies, the latter coming from a great break downfield from returnee Rose Dixon.

The pick of the tries came from Claire Wright as she ducked and weaved through Worcester tacklers and offered two fends on her way for a 60m solo score.

Makeda Lewis got her third of the day after fielding a kick and racing down the touchline to score. The final score of the day fell to Kendall Templeman who dotted down to seal an emphatic 79-0 victory.

Wasps end 2018 on a high as they maintain second position in the development league and now are, by far, the leading point scorers in the league having racked up 455 points in 10 games. The development side will now take a well-earned break until mid-January when they travel to Richmond.
