Narrow loss to Top of the Table
One try in it as the 2nd XV loose to top of the table but knock them off top spot.
It was an close and intense battle between Wasps Ladies 2's and Trojans, who currently sit 2nd of the table, with Trojans just clenching the win in the final minutes of the game. Trojan's centre, Sarah Thomas, helped the team to a victory with a hat-trick, whilst Wasps players Emelia Arbouine, Johanna Szczyglowska and Danielle Harrison secured three tries for Wasps.
Trojans kicked off the game, quickly gaining back possession. However, Wasp's defence put Trojan's hands under pressure, forcing dropped balls and a knock on. With a Wasps scrum the hosts show the strength of their pack and making it hard for Wasps to get a clean ball off the scrum.
Trojan's centre, Sarah Thomas, put down the first points of the game, breaking though Wasps defence after the hosts capitalise off a penalty. Unconverted, the score is left at 5-0 nine minutes into the game.
Wasps respond quickly to Trojan's attack and the team don't leave it long to level out the score board. Dominating at the breakdown, Wasp's Nicola Smith turns over possession and offers opportunity to break the hosts defence. Simple skills executed well prove priceless as the ball is passed out to Emelia Arbouine who takes it over the line. With a faultless conversion from Michaela Dorrian, Wasps lead with 7-5.
Before the end of the first half, both teams go on to score another try. The first from Wasps, with Johanna Szczyglowska taking it across the line following a beautifully executed catch and drive off a line out. Trojans Sarah Thomas scores her second of three tries which, despite Wasps winger, Zoe Smith's, fearless attempt to hold it up. With a successful conversion from Louise Dodd put the score board level at 12 points a piece at half time.
Trojans secure possession from Wasps kick off but start the second half in a similar fashion to the first, with some missed passes and knock on's. Despite this, the first 20minutes remained in Wasps 22 and although defending well, Wasps struggled to move the ball out of danger.
Eventually, Trojans managed to put a hole in Wasps defence when forwards substitute, Petrina Stone, takes a hard line and passes to centre, Louisa Dodd, to score the try.
With play back in Trojans 22, the next 10' sees a series of Scrums and Line-outs. With a line out on the 5m line, Wasps execute another catch and drive which sees flanker, Danielle Harrison, take it over the line to to equalise.
With little left in the game and the score board level, both teams were under pressure and looking for every opportunity to secure another try. In the closing minutes, Trojan's centre, Sarah Thomas, completes her hat-trick and secures a narrow win for Trojans, 22 points to 17.
After a disappointing loss to Saracens the week before, Wasps had returned to the pitch with something to prove. Despite a loss, with three tries and a fearless display in defence, the team walked away proud of their performance.
