Wasps FC Ladies lose to London Rivals, Saracens Women
Wasps Ladies suffer tough loss
Round four of Tyrrells Premier 15s saw London Rivals Wasps FC Ladies and Saracens Women go head to head at Allianz park. The finals score saw Saracens take the victory beating Wasps 30 points to nil.
The first 10 minutes saw a game of penalties and scrums as both teams settled into their rhythm and structure. Solid defence from the visitors forced knock ons from Saracens but unfortunately Wasps did not manage to convert these opportunities into points. The first points of the game came from Saracens winger, Rowland, with a try in the corner, the conversion just falling short. Not long after, Saracens gain a penalty and kick for posts putting them up 8 points 24 minutes in.
The next points on the board came from Saracens winger no.14 Mackinder after Saracens steal back possession from Wasps and leave her to open up over 40m on the outside. With 10 minutes left of the first half, Wasps are penalised for not rolling at the ruck and receive a yellow card leaving them a man down for the remainder of the half. Taking advantage, of the mis match in numbers, Saracens look for another try. With a LO and driving maul in Wasps 22m, Saracens move the ball towards the try line and pass it out wide to no. 10, Harrison, who spotted a gap and took it over the line by the posts. With a successful conversion, this put Saracens up 20 points with 8 minutes to go.
The second half saw some changes in the line up from Wasps, who bring Danielle Waterman on at 15, Hannah West in at Hooker, Vicky Jackson into the centres and Sarah Mitchelson in on the flank.
Much like the first half, the first 10 minutes back in the game saw both teams find composure. Saracens took the first points of the second half after winning a penalty advantage at the scrum. So far in the game Wasps have worked hard in defence, shutting down strong ball carriers Cleall and Packer. However Saracens opt to pass the ball out wide and into the hands of captain Clapp who gets the try.
With some changes made in the Wasps back line after Hannah Edwards goes off after a collision at the ruck, Wasps work hard to take control of the game. Having fallen short on the outside before, Wasps work in defence to shut down Saracens no. 14 and push her into touch as she makes a break. Following this, Wasps maintained possession and worked the ball up the field.
A LO in the 22 and a huge driving maul edges Wasps closer to the try line. With saracens giving away a penalty, Wasps gain another line out attempt on the 5m. Unfortunately Saracens hit hard in defence and stole the line out ball.
With the penalty Gods working against Wasps, Saracens gain another and kick for touch and get a LO on Wasps 22. Winning the line out, Saracens opt to keep the ball in their pack who drive the ball over the line in the 72nd minute.
Wasps continue to work hard in the closing minutes, their defence forcing mistakes from the hosts and earning them opportunities to play but unfortunately not turning these into points and leaving the final score at 30-0 to Saracens Women.
It was a tough game away for the visitors with Saracens back line winning over their defence and in turn the game. With no game next week, Wasps will be working hard and looking to strong back strong against Loughborough Lightening in two weeks time.
