Forwards fight up front with five tries to secure Wasps FC Ladies the win
Game 11 of the Tyrells Premier 15s shaped up to be a hard-fought affair. With both team’s eager for the victory. Wasps FC Ladies bounced back from last week’s defeat with an incredible performance earning 7 tries.
The game started with high intensity, Gloucester-Hartpury setting the tone of the afternoon. It took 15 minutes for Gloucester-Hartpury to break through the Wasps defence, moving the ball nicely out to the wing to score. Gloucester-Hartpury resumed the pressure straight from the kick-off. However, this time Wasps defence held strong. A great kick in the 19th minute from number 10, Hannah Edwards relieving the pressure from Gloucester-Hartpury. Wasps reply came in the 30th minute. Number 11 Tova Derk, scoring down the wing with an incredible burst of pace.
Carrying the momentum Wasps FC ladies pushed on for a second try. With a great spell of possession, the second try for Wasps came in the 34th minute. Rocky Clarke powering through the tackles to score. The next 6 minutes saw Wasps FC Ladies with much of the possession. On the brink of half-time Wasps managed to score their third. Amy Cokayne breaking the tackle to extend the lead 17-5 going into half-time.
It didn’t take long after the break for Wasps to bag another try. The 43rd minute to be exact. Extending the lead to 22-5. With Wasps FC ladies carrying all the momentum number 14 Abby Dow with a burst of speed ran to the corner to secure Wasps 5th try of the game. The next 10 minutes saw both teams fight it out to gain territory. Gloucester-Hartpury coming out on top this time. A penalty taken quickly lead to gaps in the Wasps defence, quickly exploited by Gloucester-Hartpury ending in a try and closing the gap on Wasps, 27-10.
However, Wasps FC Ladies stayed composed. Managing to withstand a short period of forthcoming pressure from Gloucester-Hartpury. This lead to another try. Wasps managing to break the Gloucester-Hartpury defensive line extending the lead once again to 32-10. With Wasps FC ladies once again with the momentum they pushed on for even more points. It only took until the 59th minute for Wasps to score once more. With now a 27-point lead, it was time for Wasps to hold on for the victory. A late try from Gloucester-Hartpury in the 69th minute closed the gap to 37-17. However, it was too late Gloucester-Hartpury handing Wasps another well-deserved win. The final score Wasps 37- 17 Gloucester-Hartpury.
The Wasps FC ladies managed to bounce back from a disappointing defeat against Harlequins. Hoping to carry the momentum in to the coming games and closing the point gap at the top of the Tyrells Premier 15s table.
