It was a decidedly sluggish Under 10s team that turned up at Counthill this morning to face Burtonwood, and in spite of only losing one of their first five games of 2012, just couldn’t seem to get into the swing of things.

Burtonwood were first to score after just four minutes, and then again eight minute later, each with a conversion, before Morgan Fox could get Waterhead on the scoreboard after 20 minutes. Complete with conversion, this would be the only try that Waterhead would score in the first half. Burtonwood scored again at 24 minutes, and were gifted a fourth just minutes later through the most blatant forward pass that everyone there saw. Except for the referee. Went into half time with Waterhead trailing 24-6.

Waterhead rallied in the second half, but not before Burtonwood scored again. Over the next 15 minutes Waterhead ran amok - Josh Thewlis scored (38 minutes), Morgan Fox scored his second (49 minutes) and Nat Brown touched down (53 minutes). Unfortunately, the boys left their come back a little too late : Burtonwood scored the final try of the game in the 57th minute, and won the game 42-20.
