As the year draws to a close I would like to use this occasion to thank all of those people who make it possible for us to continue providing the facilities and opportunities for so many young (and some not so young) people to play the game of rugby union. The commitment of those familiar faces you see around the club never fails to amaze me.
There are numerous unsung heroes around the club in all the sections who simply get on with the various tasks that keep the club ticking over without any thought of reward or recognition. To each and everyone of you, I say a big thank you on behalf of us all.
In thanking people I cannot let the moment to pass without mentioning the many sponsors who continue to support this great club of ours. Without your ongoing support, life would without doubt be far more difficult than it is. Thank you!
Results on the park have been somewhat mixed with our Ladies’ team finding life in the Premiership a lot less forgiving and results not always a true reflection of what happens on the park. However, performances are gaining recognition from our opposition with hopefully results turning in our favour soon.
Our Men’s 1st team is currently sitting in mid table having narrowly missing out on several victories which would have improved our position quite dramatically. Hopefully we can soon turn some of these losses into wins and start climbing up the table.
The 2nd XV are finding life quite challenging in a league with a number of club from a much higher level than they’ve been used to. There have however been some encouraging individual and team performances in spite of this.
Our 3rd XV continue to march on and are sitting comfortably in the top half of their league having turned in some excellent performances, ending the year with five straight wins.
Our Mini and Junior teams are too numerous to mention but with their 320+ players and their huge band of volunteers they continue to succeed at all age groups. Long may this continue.
Over recent months the Directors, with the help of Pete Cureton who is a retired Lecturer in Business Studies and Andy Swain who is a communications professional, have been working on where we would like to take the club over the next five years and the organisation necessary to achieve this.
We will be asking members and others who might have an interest in our club to comment on a suggested Strategic Intent for the years 2018-2023.
In January we will publish the document along with a short survey to find out your views. We will then consider all responses before formally adopting the document. Please take ten minutes to have your say on the future of our club.
In closing I would like to thank my fellow Directors for their continued support and on behalf of us all wish you, your families and friends a wonderful Christmas and a Peaceful and Prosperous 2018.
Yours in Rugby,
