Firwood Waterloo Rugby

Chairman's Message

Dear Member,

Thought that I would just write a short note to thank all of you who have stepped up to support the Jeff Probyn evening on Friday, and to thank Dave Raywood and Andrea for all their efforts in catching up with you.

Also I am told that Saturday's lunch is sold out, which is really great, for those not coming to the lunch I hope to see you cheering the lads on. We have a little run of games at home this month and your support is really important.

Many of you will have heard a couple of pieces of unhappy news this week, sadly Reg Turner, the West Hartlepool President passed away last Saturday, and Alex Bennett from Lymm suffered what seems to have been quite a serious neck injury. We are sending our condolences to West and Reg's family and our best wishes to Alex for a speedy recovery. I know that you will endorse that, and the reflection that follows I think makes you appreciate the support you can receive through this sport and also that you should take opportunities to enjoy life as they are presented to you.

To lighten the mood a little and to complete the picture for the weekend on Sunday there a number of cup games for our junior section. In the Blacksticks Blue Lancashire Cup the Under 16's are at Warrington, Under 15's are at LSH, and Under 13's at Preston Grasshoppers, the Under 14's have a home tie against Preston at 11.00 am, and then at 12.30, hopefully on the main pitch, the Junior Colts have the First Round of the National Shield against Bolton. If you still have the energy after Friday and Saturday, see if you can make it out to support one of these young teams who are part of our future.

The ladies season is focussing on Regional Rugby at the moment and I would take the opportunity to congratulate the eight players who were selected in the North squad, and also to commend those who were invited to trial. Similarly some of you will have seen that Charlie Beckett was selected in the England Under 16 set up, congratulations to him, and well done also to Daniel Groves who was part of the final trials and although not selected, as I understand it, yet, he is another young player who has done extremely well and I am sure can achieve great things.

Have a really enjoyable and hopefully successful weekend

Stop Press... I am also pleased to announce the birth of Jan and Emma's second daughter on Tuesday evening, baby's name to follow. Congratulations to you both.

Dave
