Firwood Waterloo Ladies Vs Wasps Ladies
Firwood Waterloo Ladies learn from previous games but face a well drilled Wasps Ladies, losing 31-3.
Travelling to Tywford sports park, the north-west side was looking to build on the performance against Richmond in what they knew would be a test against one of the leading teams in the Tyrell's Premier15s.
The first half was a game of set-piece play, mistakes by both teams saw the forwards dominating the play through multiple scrums and line-outs. Firwood Waterloo Ladies maintained possession for the opening minutes of the game but came up against a solid Wasps defence.
A turn over from Wasps with quick passing through the backs saw the home side take the first points of the game. Firwood Waterloo answered with a penalty kick which was skilfully taken by Beth Stott (sponsored by Eddy Warrington), taking the score to 5-3. Again, Firwood Waterloo pushed the home side’s defence but following phases of good attacking play Wasps again regained possession and broke through the line, taking the game 10-3 at halftime.
Both teams came out fighting in the second half, Firwood Waterloo showed they have learnt from the handling errors of previous games, but even with good line breaks by a number of players, Wasps defence remained impenetrable. In contrast, the home side's quick backs were able to take their chances efficiently, turning their breaks into tries.
Today’s game was closer than the final score shows. Firwood Waterloo’s work rate and time of possession was solid, making Wasps work hard for each point.
