U12 play England v Australia curtain raiser!

Watford U12s were honoured to be asked to be a part of the England v Australia autumn internationals, by playing on the pitch and forming the guard of honour.

It was an early start to catch the coach from the clubhouse at 10.30 along with the seniors who were attending the match. After a round of bacon rolls we headed off on the coach to Twickenham with a sing-song.

When we got to Twickenham, after getting our wristbands we met Henley U12 who were our opposition, went to get changed and made a short video which would be shown on the big screen. Then it was time to go and play! We had a game of touch rugby, and was watched by a certain Mr Eddie Jones (we think he spotted some future England hopefuls!).

After that it was lunchtime, and then we had a special visitor, Ugo Monye who came and did autographs and selfies with us.

We were given matching green shirts to wear for the guard of honour, and took our places near the players tunnel for the teams coming onto the pitch, and for the Australian and English national anthems. After getting changed, we had front row seats near the try line to watch the match. What a game!!!

It was a long drive back on the coach, with plenty more singing (and sweets). We finally arrived back at the clubhouse about 8.30, where the seniors formed a guard of honour for us!

Massive thanks to Coach Matt, Coach Dave, Coach Ben, Amanda and Susie who took great care of the team on the day, as well as all the seniors for the entertainment on the coach and making us feel part of the Watford RFC family!

By Matthew.
