LEIGH MINERS RANGERS moved level at the top of the table following their 40-10 success at WEST HULL.

The hosts – who remain in the bottom three less than 12 months after winning the title – took an early lead when Dylan Price converted a fourth minute effort from second-row Paul Shaw.

However, they were then limited to a late Callum King effort which proved to be the final scoring act of the contest with five minutes left.

Miners winger Harry Gagen helped himself to a hat-trick as Shaun Dowie (2), Connor Ratcliffe, Scott O’Brien and Jimmy Muir all touched down.

Jonny Youds was on target with four goals to seal the visitor’s eleventh win of the campaign.

WATH BROW HORNETS were the victors of the Cumbrian derby after battling past EGREMONT RANGERS 24-16.

Peter Caddy and Callum Farrer tries – plus a Cole Walker-Taylor conversion – meant the hosts lead 10-6 at the break, although Egremont remained in touch thanks to Matt Bewsher improving a Daniel Telford effort on 11 minutes.

Tom Horner and Ryan Barnes claimed further scores for the visitors in the second period – one of which Bewsher improved – but it was not quite enough to stop the Hornets picking up the win that moves them in the final play-off spot.

Winger Jamie Devine went over twice, with Karl Dixon crossing in between times and stand-off Fran King adding a conversion.

THATTO HEATH CRUSADERS picked up a point from their mid-week meeting with WATH BROW HORNETS after holding out for a 16-16 draw.

The home side grabbed a share of the spoils when Sean Leicester converted a Sean Kenny try in the opening minutes of the second half.

That 43rd minute effort proved to be the final points of a game dominated by the defence of both sides.

Thatto had trailed 16-10 at half-time but kept in the contest thanks to touchdowns from Nathan Ashurst and Bradley Ashurst, plus a conversion from Leicester.

The Hornets recovered from conceding the opening points with three four-pointers in the opening half hour from full-back Peter Caddy and winger Peter Devine (2).

Hooker Cole Walker-Taylor converted the latter touchdown and was on target with a penalty, but the Cumbrian visitors couldn’t hold on as the honours finished even.
