Jamie Martin in BARLA Great Britain Under 19s squad,

Dave Roberts the Unison BARLA Great Britain Under 19s manager has named a twenty two man squad to take part in the proposed two game tour of Serbia following an invitation by them. The side will fly out on the 5th June and return home on the 15th June.

The squad, chosen from last year’s BARLA Counties U19’s Tri-Series features six players from Lancashire and eight from Yorkshire and Cumbria respectively.

Dave Roberts the Unison BARLA Great Britain Under 19s Manager said,

“We have named a good squad using the ‘Three Counties Under 19 Championship’ scenario as we did last year. We still have a couple of players which toured South Africa last year which is great. I have been out and about the last few months with those County games seeing the guys myself and sat down with the coaching staff and put this strong squad together

“With Garry Schofield having gone to Barrow we have kept his partner Mark Robb as coach and he is joined by Colin Phillips who was my assistant manager last year. His background is that he is a qualified coach and it made sense to keep everyone together and we have rewarded him for his efforts and he will be joint head coach with Mark.

“Robert Nicholson who I have known for a number of years was assistant manager at Yorkshire. He picked up last year’s Conference Secretary of the Year and is meticulous in his work; he has put so much hard work into the game so it’s nice to reward someone like that.

“Should we get the nod we’ll be ready, I’ve personal experience of Serbian players coming over and playing for my club for a couple of months and we know they are of a good standard. We want to play and win the games but part of the tour is to spread the word as BARLA does. We are making sure that we can get to the schools, local clubs and take across our experience and coaching knowledge to help them continue their development”.
