Shawn Dyson

Also landing in Wath for 2013 was South African Shawn Dyson. A hard working seam bowler and big hitting middle order batsman, Cape Town native Shawn initially played for our Second Team in Division One during his first season for the Club. His contributions with both bat and ball led to him returning as our Overseas Player for the First Team in both 2015 and 2016.

During his time at Wath, Shawn's highest score was an incredible 68 ball 151* in a victory away at Conisbrough - an innings which included him scoring a mammoth 41 runs off a single over. He scored six more centuries for us during his stay - the highlight probably being away at Whiston, when his 114* led us to an unlikely victory.

Shawn also snared three 5 wicket hauls, with a best bowling of 6/38 again against Conisbrough. Although he never took a 5fer for the First Team, he made a habit of bowling long, accurate spells - with an economy rate of just over 3.

Shawn plays in the same Western Province Cricket Club side as Derek - in fact captain Mitchell often forces Dyson to bowl 15 over spells into the wind. And I bet he doesn't blow one bit.

Another cracking bloke who got involved in all aspects of the club, he was an extremely bad influence on my life - forcing me to drink at 3 in the afternoon when I got in from work. What even is a "Wet Wednesday?". Shawn made the journey up from some Posh Place in London for August Bank Holiday last year - where he had a whale of a time, and almost cost us Damian's deposit money on his house by trying to cook cheese in a microwave.

All the best Shawn!
