Newsletter for Watton Rugby Club Minis & Juniors – Issue 2
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are ready for the challenge of 2012. With this issue of the newsletter I have decided to include news for the Junior Section as well as the Minis.
And….for the benefit of parents who may not know:
Watton Junior Rugby Club is divided into two sections;
The Minis (under 6 to under 12s) meet on Sunday mornings from 10 to 11 am at the Sports Centre, when at home – otherwise watch this space. Some sessions are held at our partner club in Fakenham with whom we become the North Norfolk Barbarians. On these occasions we may train/play in other various parts of the region.
The Juniors (under13 to under17s) whose sessions are held 6 – 7.15 on Thursdays when the training is more structured leading to full games of rugby and hopefully to encourage them to continue playing until they reach senior rugby age.
The junior sessions often allow the players to be coached with the help of some of the senior players whose own training follows the junior session.
We have a very active support group into which any parents would be welcomed. There is a game of either the 1st or 2nd teams most Saturdays at the Sports Centre.
The teams love to see support on the sidelines – There are usually refreshments and hot drinks available from the barbecue. All match fixtures are displayed on the Website. Please do sign up as a Parent and/or Supporter – this allows access to all areas of the website: www.redandblackarmy.co.uk
If you have any queries or questions please come and see me, Carol. I am usually present at the junior training and will do my best to help.

Notes from previous events
Minis
As you will probably know the minis acquitted themselves very well and were a credit to the club in the various games at the different clubs since our last newsletter. Keep looking at the website where hopefully you will be able to see reports and photos of these events. This is our first year where we have had these fixtures and because of this we may be a little slow with the reports etc., but I promise you there will be improvement. Hopefully by the next season I will be profficient in uploading the details. Unfortunately I belong to the pre-internet generation and am having to learn by trial and error how to do it. But as I said I promise I will learn.
North Norfolk Barbarians versus Swaffham
Over 70 young people met at Watton RFC for a morning of training and games. This was the first time Watton had hosted such an event – which we deemed a great success. We used our newly acquired gazebo to serve refreshments and hot drinks to spectators via the also new barbecue. We learned a great deal from this experience and hope to repeat and even improve it in the near future.
Juniors
We have now been joined by many of the Wayland High School Rugby Team who come to our training sessions on Thursday evenings. They appear to be having great fun (this noted by a spectator) whilst enjoying hard workouts with our senior team coaches. We sincerely hope this training will prove beneficial in their High School matches.
Now we have enough players, the coaches are hoping to be able to organise some fixtures before the end of the season.
