Tony Harland essentially was Waverley Cricket Club for over 50 years. The below was his obituary from the club.

Anthony (Tony) David Harland, a local sports personality, passed away peacefully in Frimley Park Hospital on Sunday morning 28 September 2008, aged 76. He was born on 4 September 1932 and had been ill for several months.

Born in York Road, Aldershot, Tony went to West End School before passing the eleven plus and going on to Farnham Boys Grammar School where he quickly established himself as a sportsman, playing football and cricket. National Service in 1950-52 saw him drafted into the Royal Air Force and he served close to home at White Waltham. Tony never lost his fondness for the RAF and met up with his old pals at reunions on several occasions. On his return from the services he lived at home with his parents in Cranmore Lane before they moved to Monkton Lane, Farnham. For most of Tony's adult life he worked for the NatWest Bank mainly in their Aldershot Branch until his retirement in 1997. An old Farnhamian, he joined their Football Club and played for many years as goalkeeper until injury forced him out, but by then had joined a local wandering cricket side, Waverley, in 1951 to keep his sporting life going. As well as being a playing member for 56 years, his 1500th innings was at Oakley Basingstoke in 2006; he was also Secretary and Treasurer and made many friends from other clubs. Affectionately known as "The Guvnor" Tony has played cricket on just about every pitch within a 30 mile radius of Farnham, cycling to many during the 50's and 60's, and was a keen supporter of Hampshire CCC. In the winter months he would be seen, complete with pipe, at Aldershot or any other league football ground he could get to.

Tony is survived by his second wife Christine, whom he married in 1989, his two children, Kate and John, from his first marriage to Mena who predeceased him and his four grandchildren.
