The key points and decisions from Waverley's annual meeting of minds...

The 67th Waverley Cricket Club annual general meeting was held at the Farnham Liberal Club on 16 February 2018 at 20.00 hours. In attendance were Herb Scarth ("Bertie"), Neil Carmichael ("Hoagy"), James Wright ("Mongo"), Peter Brewer ("Mr B"), Marcus Carmichael ("MC"), Simon Brewer ("KV"), Adrian Day ("Mog"), Adam Carmichael ("AC") and Chris Beanland ("Beanie"). There was an AGM debut for Sam Tempest ("Troy") and a welcome return for Andy Minshaw ("The Mincer").

Fuelled by the traditional pre-meeting libation, the meeting commenced with the approval of the minutes of the previous meeting. The club accounts generated a more lively debate than is usually the case and in particular, it was resolved that the Club would ensure that all regular players were chased for their membership fees in the coming season (more on that later). The accounts were duly approved.

Turning to the election of Club Officials, Hoagy was re-elected unopposed to the position of Chairman. Both Mongo and Beanie were also re-elected unanimously as Captain and Vice-Captain for the 2018 season, Mr B noting that both had made a good fist of it in 2017. Following on from last year's meeting, it was agreed that the role of Fixture Secretary and Honourary Secretary would be split as of this year - Bertie would continue to assist in the role of Fixture Secretary, with KV and Mog initially taking the strain of operating the new dedicated email account. It was agreed that the aim of the email account was to make it easy for future Fixture Secretaries and/or Club Captains to re-new fixtures on a season-by-season basis. Bertie was elected to continue in the role of Honourary Secretary unopposed. Mongo was similarly re-elected as Club Treasurer, whilst Russ Golding and Beanie would fulfil the role of Child Protection Officer.

There was another lively debate regarding subscriptions and match fees for the coming season, which resulted in the following being agreed for the 2018 season:

- Membership fee: £30 (which includes the cost of nets).
- Match fee for members (those who HAVE PAID the membership fee): £8.
- Match fee for non-members (those who HAVE NOT PAID the membership fee): £10.
- Match fee for under-18s and discretionaries: £5.

There have been a few changes to the fixtures for 2018 (the dates for which will be added to the website shortly) and three gaps in the fixture list remain - those are Sunday 17 June 2018; Sunday 24 June 2018; and Sunday 5 August 2018. If you are aware of any teams looking for fixtures on those dates, let us know and it will be passed up the chain of command.

To the award of trophies and this year a vote at the AGM was required. The result was as follows:

Batsman of the Year: James Wright
Bowler of the Year: Adrian Day
Player of the Year: Chris Beanland

Heartiest congratulations to the winners.

2018 nets have already commenced and are one again being held at All Hallows school every Monday from 21.00 hours to 22.00 hours. As per the above, if you pay your membership fee then you have nothing else to pay for nets. For non-members the cost is £3 per session.

With no other pressing matters to discuss, the meeting duly closed at 21.25 hours.
