Judge Wig sends a strong message

A disgraceful incident!
- The Waverley CC Hat Committee

Last Sunday after the Oakley match a Hat Committee was convened for the first time in 40 years. This drastic action was required as a senior member of the Club was in danger of bringing the club into disrepute by the repeated wearing of tights under his whites.

Having previously been warned several years ago at Lynchmere after a first offence; Peter Brewer was again caught in tights at Medstead CC earlier this season. Due to his seniority with the club and the repeated offending a Hat Committee was the obvious solution. Judge Wig, a Hanging Judge with a reputation for brutal punishment, was brought in from the Southampton Assizes to sit in judgement and to pass sentence upon Brewer. Judge Wig and the other two members of the committee, drawn from the Showering Committee and the Drinking Committee, will remain anonymous as is customary.

Upon receiving the charge Brewer realised the game was up and immediately leapt to his feet to plead guilty. Throwing himself at the somewhat negligible mercies of Judge Wig was a risky gambit but one that appears to have paid off when he was sentenced to a jug of beer to be delivered within the next few matches.

The wearing of tights under whites is strictly prohibited at Waverley CC and anyone transgressing after this example can expect severe punishment.
