The thrill is in the chase
Waverley chase down 260 to beat Frensham...
It was the bowlers who were slaughtered on a batting track to die for. After a slow start to some accurate bowling by Day, the Frensham openers put on 51 and the third wicket pairing of Charter and Hoyte-Bone thumped 50 off 7 overs, but then wickets started to fall giving Waverley hope. When the 4th wicket fell at 176, the visitors thought it was downhill but young Ollie Brown punished anything loose and hit the final ball for a straight 6. Only bowler Moxham smelled of roses.
Waverley started brightly but soon lost Wright and then found themselves at 54-2 off 16 overs. Enter captain Simon Brewer who with Ian Verrinder put on 122 in the next 18 overs to breathe life into the game. With the skipper gone, Russ Golding continued with the onslaught and 85 were scored off the next 9 overs to record Waverley’s first win at Frensham for years.
The Man of the Match Hat went to Ian Verrinder ('IV') for his batting, while James Wright ('Jim Jam') was awarded the Supporters' Egyptian Heiroglyph Pink T-Shirt award for dropping a dolly. Chris Scarth ('the Ginger Ninja') was awarded the Pink T-Shirt for general poofery. Special mention should also go to the unprecedented number of supporters who turned out for the game, with twenty three SWAGs, children and old boys being present.
Thanks to Mr B for the match report.
