A solid season for the badgers.

Wednesbury Hockey Club – Badgers Report – 2014/15 Season

Following the promotion of a few players to the 4th team this created an opportunity to introduce more youngsters to the Badgers scene.

The season began therefore with a well balanced squad of players from last season plus a few new members. It was also great to welcome another adult to help us in the form of Barry Styles who tells me how much he has enjoyed being part of the group.
We were able to enter each match with a squad of at least 13 players (sometimes more) which is a testament to the strength of our youth development activity.

It is tremendous to report that every player has improved throughout the season and we proved to be a match for most teams we played.
A mixture of wins, losses and draws kept our season progressing well and with the exception of Lichfield no club achieved a winning double over us during the season.(both games were very close affairs).

It has been a pleasure looking after such a positive group of youngsters and to watch not just individual improvement but the whole team moving to a better level and producing some very good hockey matches.

We have played youngsters from National League teams and also Midlands Premier teams such as Barford Tigers,Lichfield,Bournville
and Sutton Coldfield and given a very good account of ourselves.
Selecting our “Player of the Season” was very easy and well done to Jack Edwards who has had a tremendous season playing in defence and is achieving a very high standard of hockey – but as importantly possesses a very good temperament both on and off the field.
Finding the “Most improved Player” was more difficult but in the end both Chris and I felt that Arran Singh merited the award as he has made good strides forward in his first full season.

The leading goalscorer award went to Cameron Madeley followed by Josh Lal with the second highest goals scored.

Finally I must thank Chris Lal for his support on match days and Peter Madeley for his contribution on selection.
